Ladue’s Derdoy earns Suburban Yellow Player-of-the-Year award; Marquette claims offensive, defensive POY honors

Ladue junior Victoria Derdoy, who led the Rams to a 14-7 overall record, No. 6 seed and a Midwest Tournament state quarterfinal appearance, was named the Suburban Yellow Conference Player-of-the-Year for the 2024 season.

Derdoy scored 27 goals, including both in a 3-2 overtime setback to St. Joseph’s in a classic state quarterfinal game in which the Angels scored the tying goal with no time remaining in regulation to force overtime. She also dished out 11 assists, and her 69 points placed fifth in the STL-metro area.

Marquette’s Vendt, Traxler garner OPOY, DPOY honors

Junior Emma Vendt was a goal-scoring machine for the Marquette this season, putting in 24 of the 47 goals scored by the Mustangs. She added 10 assists and had a hand in 72 percent of the team’s goal scoring production.

Vendt, who helped the Mustangs earn a 13-7 overall record and a top-12 ranking in the Midwest Tournament, scored twice in a playoff win against United including the game-winner as Marquette won a playoff game for the 18th consecutive season.

Marquette senior Brynn Traxler claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award for her play and leadership on the Mustangs’ back line. Traxler helped Marquette earn nine shutouts and hold opponents to 27 goals in 20 games. She also added five goals and three assists on the offensive end.
