Kirkwood scored a season-high 19 goals and Ursuline posted a playoff shutout for the second consecutive season as the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association girls lacrosse playoffs kicked off Tuesday in the St. Louis area. Here is a recap of the opening round of postseason play:
Kirkwood 19, Parkway North 2
The Pioneers scored goals on their first three possessions and rolled to a decisive victory over the Vikings. The 19 goals were the most scored by a Kirkwood team since a 19-3 victory over Parkway Central on May 3, 2021.
No. 20 Kirkwood (6-6), which lost its first five games, reached the .500 mark for the first time this season and will travel to No. 13 St. Dominic (7-5) at 4 p.m. Thursday in a second round matchup.
Parkway North (3-8) received goals from seniors Makenna Klepacki and Alaina Friedhoff.
Ursuline 12, Whitfield 0
Isabella Hardt made three saves and helped No. 17 Ursuline claim a shutout for the second consecutive postseason. Last year, the Bears opened the playoffs with an identical, 12-0 blanking of Hazelwood West.
Celine Auberry, Claire Fagan and Eva Jones contributed two goals each for Ursuline (6-10). For the second consecutive season, the Bears will travel to No. 16 Nerinx Hall for a second round matchup, scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday.
Nerinx Hall defeated Ursuline 19-11 to advance to the round of 16 last year.
Francis Howell Central 12, Francis Howell North 5
Raena Crews and Brianna Lewis netted hat tricks to lead the No. 23 Spartans over Francis Howell North. After starting the season 0-7, Howell Central won for the fourth time in the last five games and has not yielded more than five goals in any win.
The Spartans (4-8) will travel to No. 10 Lafayette (10-3) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a second round matchup.
Parkway South 17, Notre Dame 5
Alyssa Bryant and Abby Karl scored four goals apiece and Natalie Parra made 10 saves in leading the No. 24 Patriots to a convincing victory over No. 25 Notre Dame.
Brynne Smith added three goals and two assists and Tori Knowles collected four ground balls as Parkway South snapped a six-game losing streak in which four of those losses came by a one-goal margin.
Parkway South (7-8) travels to No. 9 Visitation (7-8) at 4 p.m. Thursday for a second round matchup.
Parkway Central 15, Incarnate Word 2
Mia Behrends scored four goals and Clara Carmody added three more as the No. 21 Colts cruised to victory over Incarnate Word.
Parkway Central (9-2), which is having its best season since going 12-3 in 2019, will travel to No. 12 Summit at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Lindbergh 10, Clayton 7
Lydia Krob notched her 10th hat trick of the season to help the No. 22 Flyers defeat Clayton. Krob, who has been a model of consistency, scored her 43rd goal and has helped Lindbergh (8-5) win seven of its last eight games after beginning the season with a 1-4 record.
Sydney Lucas, Addie Rohrbach and Piper Wilmot added two goals apiece, and Darby Sindel made five saves for the Flyers, who will travel to face No. 11 Parkway West at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Villa Duchesne 16, Oakville 4
The No. 19 Saints (6-7) will travel to No. 14 Northwest Cedar Hill (10-3) at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
Webster Groves 10, Pattonville 6
No. 18 Webster Groves (11-3) will face No. 15 Francis Howell (5-7) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
