Metro Sports STL – 3rd Team

The Metro Sports STL third team, sponsored by Athletic Republic, includes players-of-the-year, players who seamlessly changed positions and players who set school records. Those on the Honorable Mention list barely missed a spot in this series, but deserved recognition on their terrific seasons nonetheless.

Kaitlyn Fenier, senior, Parkway South

The Player-of-the-Year in the Suburban Green Conference, Fenier scored 18 goals and added six assists for a Patriots’ team that finished with an 11-9 record. She scored 53 percent of her team’s goals and achieved double-digit goal totals all four years of her varsity career.  

Kayla Arb, sophomore, Summit

The Player-of-the-Year in the Suburban Red Conference, Arb led the Falcons in goals (14), points (37) and game-winning goals (5). She scored the decisive goal in one-goal victories wins over Marquette, Parkway South and Eureka and helped Summit achieve an 18-3-1 overall record, including 8-1 in games decided by one goal.

Evie Harris, senior, Visitation

The lone senior on a young Vivettes’ squad, Harris led her team in goals (14), points (33) and game-winning goals (4). She exploded for four goals against Parkway West and then duplicated the feat the following day against Oakville during a late season, five-game winning streak for Visitation.

Lexi Nichol, sophomore, Ursuline

The Bears’ leader in goals (11) and points (29), Nichols also excelled during an emergency goalkeeping start, making eight saves in 3-2 overtime playoff victory over Nerinx Hall. She tallied 11 points at the Gateway Classic, scored the game-winner against Kirkwood and helped a tough-minded Ursuline team reach the state quarterfinals.

Maddie Croghan, senior, St. Joe’s

Scored six goals and added 14 assists for the state runner-up Angels. During the postseason, she effortlessly switched positions mid-game and made impactful plays all over the field, assisting on crucial goals during one-goal victories over Ladue and MICDS. She earned a Sportsmanship Award in the GISL conference.

Mary Kate Bryan, senior, Nerinx Hall

With creative stick skills and exceptional vision, Bryan led the Markers with eight assists. She helped Nerinx Hall earn a record of 11-8-1, including wins over Ladue, Marquette and Cor Jesu, where she scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory.

Georgia Lochhead, senior, MICDS

A four-year starter, Lochhead exhibited outstanding senior leadership in guiding a young Rams’ team through a 16-game winning streak and a No. 1 ranking in the state tournament. She scored eight goals, including a two-goal effort against Lindbergh, and added four assists. She will play at Colgate University.

Gracie Pelligreen, junior, Villa Duchesne

A first-team, All-GISL performer, Pelligreen was among the Saints’ leaders with 13 assists, notching at least one helper in six straight games leading into the state semifinals. For her career, the right-side midfielder has 15 goals and 26 assists while playing outstanding defense.  

Scottie Stanec, sophomore, John Burroughs

A member of the Field Hockey Canada Development Squad, Stanec was a cerebral, reliable force on defense for the state champion Bombers. She contributed six goals on offense while providing lockdown defense in John Burroughs’ 17 shutout victories.

Colby Durbin, senior, Eureka

The Defensive Player-of-the-Year in the Suburban Red Conference, Durbin placed second in the region in save percentage (.853) while making 128 saves and earning seven shutouts. She made 19 saves against Westminster, 18 against Summit and set the career saves mark at Eureka with 255. She will play at DePauw University.

Tessa Zwicker, junior, John Burroughs

Allowing only nine goals all season, Zwicker had a miniscule 0.48 goals against average and earned 17 shutouts. She stopped 13 of 15 shots and recorded two shutouts during the playoffs to help the Bombers earn a state title. Zwicker will play at the University of Pennsylvania.
